Competency 6: Participate Actively in Profession

Active Participant.  That should be my name that shows up on conference name tags instead of Amber Wolfe.  Because my career role is grant-funded by the USDA, I work nationwide, and one of my main responsibilities is to attend and present at conferences across the country.  This does not leave a large amount of time for attending conferences for my own personal reasons, but luckily, some of my career conferences offered tracks or sessions related to Instructional Design.

Identifies and participates in communities of practice within the field of Educational Technology

Artifact- EDCI 660a Reflective Essays and EDCI 513 Professional Plan

Competency- My focus environment for this assignment was Education and I reported on the role of Instructor- Agricultural Education, Agricultural Safety and Health.  This is my current professional role, which builds upon my years as a high school Agricultural Science and Business teacher.  The plan required me to identify the steps required for becoming a professional in the field of educational technology as it could be applied to my current role.  It pushed me to engage in additional professional groups, and to seek out professional development conferences.  I attended 9 professional development conferences for my career responsibilities, and one for my own professional development and growth.  The ACE conference provided members the opportunity to join SIG’s (special interest groups) and I have joined the distance education, social media, and professional learning groups.  For the Agri-Safe group, I am a member of the adult and youth education committee.

As noted in Competency 5, I have gained valuable information and experience by being a part of professional organizations, subscribing to several social media and websites, and attending conferences.
